John Oro

John J. Oró, M.D.

Dr. John J. Oró received his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He then completed his neurosurgical residency training at the University Missouri-Columbia (MU) Health Sciences Center in Columbia in 1984. He received Board Certification in Neurological Surgery from the American Board of Neurological Surgeons in 1989.

Dr. Oró served as Chief of the Division of Neurological Surgery at MU prior to moving to Aurora, Colorado in 2005. That year he established The Neurosurgery Center of Colorado and The Chiari Care Center at The Medical Center of Aurora.

Dr. Oró is a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of Chiari I Malformation. During his tenure at MU and now at TMCA, he has performed over 400 operations for the Chiari I malformation and related disorders including syringomyelia and the tethered spinal cord.

As Medical Director of the Neurosurgery Center of Colorado, Dr. Oró's expertise covers a variety of neurological disorders including brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, and disorders of the spine and peripheral nerves.

Dr. Oró has been listed among the Best Doctor's in America since 2001. He has held numerous appointments, serving on boards and committees at the state and national levels.

Adam P. Smith, MD

Dr. Adam P. Smith graduated from Rush University Medical College in Chicago, Illinois in 2005 and recently completed a residency in neurological surgery at Rush University Medical Center. During his time in Chicago, he pursued additional training in stereotactic and functional neurological surgery under Dr. Roy AE Bakay, MD.

Dr. Smith’s clinical interests are both intracranial and spine surgery:

  • Spine pathology with emphasis on degenerative conditions, minimally invasive and complex procedures, peripheral nerve procedures, and spinal tumors
  • Intracranial pathology with emphasis on tumors, cerebrovascular diseases such as aneurysms, cavernous malformations and AVMs
  • Functional neurosurgery including epilepsy, movement disorders and trigeminal neuralgia

Dr. Smith is a member of a numerous professional societies including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and AANS/CNS Section on Stereotactic and Functional Surgery.
